What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 1 Holland onion, diced
  • 400g minced beef
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Spring roll (popia) wrappers
  • Perfect Italiano Perfect Melt
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp chopped pickled gherkins
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp paprika powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cooking oil, for frying

Step by step

Method

  1. 1

Make the Big Mac sauce: combine the mayonnaise, chopped gherkins, mustard, paprika, black pepper, white pepper, 1/4 tsp garlic powder and a pinch of salt in a bowl and mix well. Chill in the fridge while you prepare the rest.

  2. 2

Cook the beef filling: heat a little oil and saute the diced onion until soft and fragrant. Add the minced beef with 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp black pepper and 1/2 tsp salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the beef is dry and fully cooked. Remove and set aside.

  3. 3

Assemble the popia: lay a wrapper on a flat surface. Place 1-2 tbsp of beef filling in the centre and add Perfect Italiano Perfect Melt to taste. Fold up the bottom edge, then the left and right sides, and roll up tightly. Seal the end with a little water.

  4. 4

Fry: heat enough oil over medium heat and fry the popia for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain.

  5. 5

Serve the popia hot with the Big Mac sauce for dipping.
